Lupine Bouquets Arrive at Honeydew Farm

Market season is settling into its summer rhythm at Honeydew Farm.

With Park Rapids now several weeks into the season and Walker entering its second week, we're beginning to see more fresh harvests and flowers make their way from the farm to the market table. Every week brings something new as crops mature, flowers begin to bloom, and the growing season gains momentum.

This week we're featuring fresh lupine bouquets, continuing harvests of rhubarb and French Breakfast Radishes, and sharing a look at what's happening both on the farm and at the market.

Around the Farm

The farm is changing quickly this time of year.

New plantings continue to grow, flowers are beginning to bloom, and some of the earliest harvests are now arriving at market each week.

While spring was focused on seed starting and planting, we're beginning to enter the exciting transition toward harvest season. It's one of our favorite times of year because every week looks a little different than the one before.

Featured Flower of the Week: Lupine Bouquets

One of the highlights of this week's market is our first fresh lupine bouquets of the season.

Lupine is one of the signature flowers of early summer in northern Minnesota. Their tall blooms create beautiful texture and color in arrangements, with shades ranging from soft pinks and creams to vibrant purples and deep rose tones.

Each bouquet is harvested and arranged on the farm and reflects the beauty of this short but memorable bloom season.

Featured Harvests This Week

Alongside our flower bouquets, we're continuing to harvest some of the season's earliest crops.

Fresh Rhubarb

One of the classic flavors of early summer, rhubarb remains available this week and is perfect for crisps, pies, jams, sauces, and baking.

Its bright color and tart flavor make it one of the harvests many customers look forward to each year.

French Breakfast Radishes

French Breakfast Radishes continue to be one of our favorite early-season crops.

Their crisp texture, beautiful red-and-white coloring, and mild peppery flavor make them perfect for salads, sandwiches, grazing boards, and simple summer meals.

Fresh harvests will continue as long as supplies allow.

Recipe of the Week

Rhubarb Strawberry Compote

Fresh rhubarb continues to make its way to market this week, and one of our favorite ways to enjoy it is in a simple rhubarb strawberry compote. The sweetness of strawberries balances rhubarb's signature tart flavor, creating a versatile topping that's perfect for breakfast or dessert.

Ingredients

• 3 cups fresh rhubarb, chopped

• 2 cups strawberries, sliced

• ⅓ cup sugar

• 2 tablespoons water

• 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

• 1 tablespoon lemon juice

Instructions

1. Add rhubarb, strawberries, sugar, and water to a medium saucepan.

2. Bring to a gentle simmer over medium heat.

3. Cook for 10–15 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the fruit begins to break down and soften.

4. Stir in the vanilla extract and lemon juice.

5. Remove from heat and allow to cool slightly.

6. Serve warm or chilled.

Serving Ideas

• Spoon over Greek yogurt.

• Top pancakes or waffles.

• Serve over vanilla ice cream.

• Spread on toast, biscuits, or scones.

• Stir into oatmeal.
